What this means in practice

Practical effect
Records are the evidence base for every other obligation; the retention clock (8 years, 5 after winding-up) is what an inspection works from.

All FMEs, all schemes
Frequency
Continuous
Evidence
Books of account and records per scheme; Internal policy/framework/SOP document register
Common mistake
Purging records early or keeping them in a form that cannot be retrieved on demand.
4

What changed in 2026

New recordkeeping category added: records pertaining to internal policies, frameworks, plans or standard operating procedures prepared by the FME in compliance with these regulations.

Practical effect
Expands the mandatory books-of-account/records list to expressly include internal policy, framework, plan and SOP documentation.
What to do
Confirm the document/evidence register captures internal policies, frameworks, plans and SOPs as a distinct maintained-records category, retrievable for inspection.
